Why Choose Mimaki Materials — Full-Color Material Jetting with Precision, Versatility, and Ease of Use

The material jetting technology used by Mimaki (resin jet + UV LED curing) represents a powerful synthesis of color printing and additive manufacturing. You get full-color results — more than 10 million color variations — without separate coloring steps.

Print-to-finish workflows are streamlined: because support is water-soluble and the resin is strong and stable, you can print detailed complex parts, remove supports easily, and proceed to post-processing (drilling, coating, painting) without extensive cleanup.

The build volume is large enough for many practical applications (about 500 × 500 × 300 mm for the flagship machine) — allowing for multiple parts per print or sizeable single pieces.

Mimaki’s background in 2D inkjet printing brings excellent color management (ICC profiles), reliable inkjet heads (with circulation to prevent clogging), and high uptime — making their materials not only about aesthetics but also about process reliability.

Full-Color UV-Curable Resins (CMYK + White + Clear)

Mimaki uses pigmented acrylic resins — in Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black, plus White and Clear — to jet fine droplets layer by layer. These are cured instantly using UV-LED, building full-color 3D objects without the need for post-print painting.

Because color is integrated during printing (not applied afterward), you get true full-color parts with fine gradients, realistic finishes and potentially transparent or translucent effects (when using clear resin).

Thanks to extremely fine resolution (layer thickness down to ~20 µm) and precise ink-droplet placement, Mimaki resins deliver outstanding detail — ideal for prototypes, figurines, concept models, architectural mockups, collectibles, signage, marketing samples and any project where aesthetics matter.

Post-processing is also supported: the resin parts have strength comparable to standard plastics (e.g. ABS), making them suitable for drilling, coating/overcoating, and additional finishing — which adds to their versatility.

Water-Soluble Support Material — Clean, Detailed Printing Without Messy Post-Processing

Every Mimaki 3D print job uses a water-soluble support material alongside the colored resin. During printing, the support material is deposited where needed, then — once printing is complete — rinsed out simply by soaking the model in water.

This approach allows for very complex geometries, fine details, internal cavities, overhangs and delicate structures without the risk of damage during support removal — a major advantage over mechanical removal methods.

Because the support dissolves cleanly, surface finish remains smooth and high-detail, and fragile parts stay intact.

Clear & Translucent Options — For Transparent, Glass-Like or Glossy Effects

Mimaki’s resin lineup includes a “Clear” resin (in addition to CMYK + White) which — either alone or mixed with pigments — enables creation of transparent or translucent parts.

This opens up creative possibilities: architectural models with transparent windows, product prototypes with clear housings, artistic pieces with glass-like aesthetics, medical-style translucent models, and any application where you need to see interior features or simulate glass/plastic transparency.

Clear-resin parts retain the same post-processing versatility as colored ones: you can coat, paint, or finish them, while preserving their translucent attributes.
