Collection: ProJet 5500 / 5600 Materials – VisiJet Plastics & Elastomers

The ProJet 5500X and ProJet 5600 represent the pinnacle of MultiJet Printing (MJP) technology, offering true multi-material capabilities that are essential for advanced product design and engineering. These systems utilize the VisiJet C composite material series, which allows you to print parts with a complete spectrum of mechanical properties—from hard, rigid plastic to soft, rubber-like elastomer—all within a single build.

The ability to simultaneously jet multiple VisiJet C materials, such as VisiJet C4 (Black) and VisiJet C5 (Clear), enables you to control the elasticity, strength, and opacity of every part of your prototype. This versatility dramatically reduces assembly time and allows for the creation of sophisticated, integrated functional prototypes that accurately mimic final products.

Why ProJet 5500 / 5600 Materials Stand Out

The ProJet 5500 / 5600 series uses the VisiJet material ecosystem — a set of photopolymer resins and elastomers that can be printed pure or blended voxel-by-voxel. This gives unprecedented control over part properties: you can mix rigid and flexible resins to create composite parts with custom mechanical behavior.

With a wide build volume and more than 100 possible composite combinations, these printers and their materials support applications ranging from functional prototypes to over-molded parts, large assemblies, rapid tooling, and master patterns for molding or casting.

Whether you need rigid, load-bearing parts; flexible, rubber-like components; or complex multi-material assemblies — the ProJet 5500/5600 materials deliver a flexible, production-ready material portfolio.

Rigid & Durable Core Materials

The rigid VisiJet C resins serve as the foundation for the toughest parts and composite blends. They are essential for parts requiring structural integrity, dimensional accuracy, and stiffness.

VisiJet C4 (Black): This is the primary opaque, rigid material, providing durable, plastic-like properties. It is crucial for high-strength housings, stiff assemblies, jigs, and fixtures. When blended with the C7 or C8 flexible materials, the C4 component maintains the structure's overall rigidity.

VisiJet C5 (Clear): An optical material used when light transmission or transparency is required. It is commonly used for clear windows, covers, and flow analysis models. Its durability also makes it a strong choice for solid, rigid prototypes that need a natural, uncolored appearance.

Elastomeric & Flexible Composite Materials

The unique advantage of the ProJet 5500/5600 is its capacity to produce rubber-like parts and blend materials to achieve specific durometer values, mimicking common manufacturing elastomers.

  • VisiJet C7 (Black Flexible): A flexible, black material that forms the basis for rubber-like Shore A components. Used alone or blended with C4, it allows engineers to accurately simulate gaskets, seals, grips, hoses, and other components requiring elastomeric properties with specific flexibility ratings.
  • VisiJet C8 (Natural Flexible): This material is the neutral, flexible counterpart to C7. It is used for creating transparent or natural-colored flexible components. By blending C8 and C5, one can achieve clear, flexible parts, such as membranes or soft covers, for advanced functional testing.

The Composite Blending Advantage

The ProJet 5500/5600's capability to mix VisiJet C materials on the fly is its most powerful feature, enabling the creation of true composite parts with localized mechanical properties.

  • Digital Blending for Shore Values: By adjusting the ratio between the rigid materials (C4/C5) and the flexible materials (C7/C8), users can digitally define material stiffness across a wide range, achieving specific Shore D and A ratings (50D to 50A) without complex post-processing or assembly.
  • Seamless Overmolding Simulation: This process allows designers to simulate overmolded handles, integrated seals, and multi-durometer components by simply assigning different material blends to different regions of the digital model, all printed simultaneously as a single, fully bonded part.

Essential Support Material
As with all MJP systems, the material jetting process is made seamless and effective by the use of a simple, clean support solution.

  • VisiJet S500 Support Material: This non-toxic, melt-away wax is critical for supporting the intricate geometries of VisiJet C parts. It provides excellent adhesion during printing and is easily removed in a warming oven or similar device, leaving behind pristine part surfaces and clearing even the smallest internal channels without manual scraping or water jetting.
