Troubleshooting Guide - Pressroom UV
On Press Issue: Buildup on Successive Units
Potential Causes
The ink is not properly cured. It is only cured at the surface and it is breaking off at the dry/wet ink interface and building up on the next unit(s)
Solution: Wet trap the inks. Make sure they are thoroughly cured at the end of the press prior to coating.
Ink is not adhering to the substrate
Solution:
- Lower the ink settings to lower the film thickness. If the film thickness is too high the UV light will not be able to penetrate to cure the ink thoroughly.
- Add photoinitiator 1% at a time up to a maximum or 3%.
- Check the pressures on the impression cylinders.
- Check to make sure that the ink is not over imulsified.
- Check ink adhesion prior to printing.
